Adwaiy and the Curse of English Poetry

 Everyone has that one subject they just can’t stand. For Adwaiy, it’s English.

Not because he can’t do it — he can — but because poems exist.

According to him, poems are the most unnecessary puzzle humanity ever created. Why say “the crimson horizon wept” when you could just say “sunset”? Why make students decode hidden meanings when the poet probably just liked the color red?

For Adwaiy, every poem in an English textbook feels like a personal attack. He’ll stare at a verse, flip the page, and mutter something like, “Nope. Not today.” And the funniest part? The teacher will ask, “What do you think the poet meant?” and Adwaiy’s answer is always the same:
“Probably nothing. He just wrote it.”

Here’s the thing: it’s not that he hates reading. Give him a manga or an anime story, and he’ll happily go through it for hours. But English poems? That’s where he draws the line. If it doesn’t have a fight scene, a character arc, or at least some cool art — he’s out.

I’ve seen him deal with math problems and science theories with patience. But give him a single poem to analyse, and it’s instant rage quit. You can practically see the thought bubble over his head saying: “Why am I being forced to read about a guy comparing life to a broken clock?”

What makes it funnier is how consistent he is. Every year, new poems, same reaction. Doesn’t matter if it’s Shakespeare, Frost, or some random textbook poet no one’s heard of — Adwaiy will roll his eyes like it’s a personal tradition.

But here’s the truth: that’s exactly what makes him so entertaining as a friend. He’s brutally honest about the things he doesn’t like, passionate about the things he does, and never afraid to say what everyone else is secretly thinking in class.

So yeah, English class might be his villain origin story… but at least it makes for some hilarious memories.
